What Are Periodic Tests and Inspections?

Periodic tests and inspections are routine procedures that must be carried out in every workplace where machines or work equipment are used, performed by technical personnel such as machine engineers or technicians. These inspections extend the lifespan of the machinery and equipment and help prevent potential accidents. This situation can be compared to the periodic servicing of cars.

The Legal Basis of Periodic Tests and Inspections

Article 10 of the Occupational Health and Safety Law holds employers responsible for all potential risks that may occur in the workplace. This article imposes an obligation on employers to check the safety of machinery and work equipment that may pose a danger in the workplace.

Article 7 of the Regulation on Health and Safety Conditions in the Use of Work Equipment, published on April 25, 2013, mandates that machines and work equipment used in the workplace must be regularly inspected by authorized personnel, and the inspection reports must be kept. These inspection reports hold the person conducting the inspection responsible. If this person prepares and signs a report indicating that there is no harm in using the equipment, they will be held accountable for any accidents that may occur in the future. Therefore, the person conducting the periodic inspection must carry out their job carefully.

All machines and equipment used in the workplace must be inspected by a machine engineer at the intervals specified by law. These inspections are carried out by an organization independent of the manufacturer and are more detailed. The manufacturer's inspections do not hold any legal liability, and the actual responsibility lies with the company conducting the periodic inspection.
